Vassilikos is more an area of Zante, in the south of the island than a specific village. It is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of Zante, with some of the best beaches on the island – the ideal for any beach lover. The beaches include Agios Nikolaos beach (cosmopolitan and busy), Banana beach, Gerakas (my favourite, stumbled upon by accident many years ago – it is now very popular), Porto Roma and Porto Zorro. Most of these beaches are protected as turtles come ashore to lay eggs. I remember staying on the beach all night to catch a glimpse, only to fall asleep and miss the whole adventure, only the turtle tracks where left when I woke.
Many have watersports and all are beaches to spend the whole day at sunbathing and swimming. There are a few bars and tavernas to be found along the coastal road through Vassilikos and these offer magnificent views over the Ionian Sea and across to mainland Greece . A car is essential to fully explore and appreciate this region. Other activities such as horse riding are also available in Vassilikos, an ideal place for families and couples who appreciate nature, fine beaches, stunning scenery and tranquillity to have the best holiday yet!
